The Bernie Grant Arts Centre announces its reopening season as it opens for the first time since Spring 2020.

From June 21st the centre will launch a 6 month series of events which will continue to put Black British Culture at the heart of the community.

This reopening season will commence with the Windrush Festival on June 21-27 which features 50 artists. From July the centre will host a Summer School, with UpRise and Upswing in August.

The reopening season continues throughout the summer and into autumn with the annual Tottenham Literature Festival and Winter Children’s series closing out the year.

The Windrush Festival is a week of performances, workshops and live events that celebrate the descendants and community of the Windrush Generation in Tottenham and beyond.

Alongside the festival kicking off the reopening week is Inside Out London, an arts project featuring portraits of Tottenham faces in an installation by award winning French artist JR as part of a London-wide spectacular celebration of the UEFA EURO 2020 coming to the capital.  JR’s infamous photo van will occupy the BGAC Square and portraits of the Tottenham community will be pasted across the Centre for all to see. Hannah Azieb Pool, Artistic Director/CEO Bernie Grant Arts Centre says:

“It’s been a real privilege to support Black artists and focus on work directly connecting with the community during the pandemic. We can’t wait to fill our theatre, studios and outdoor square with work by the very best Black writers, performers, musicians and theatre makers from Tottenham, and beyond.”

The Windrush Festival will be a bold, dynamic and contemporary family friendly multi-arts festival that celebrates the community and descendants of the Windrush Generation.

Across one weekend the centre will showcase world-class Black artists with so much to discover from music to spoken word, circus to art exhibitions and more. It is an important way to commence the reopening season of The Bernie Grant Arts Centre

The Bernie Grant Arts Centre will continue to follow all government guidelines as lockdown eases and all the necessary precautions and covid-secure precautions will be put in place to ensure that visitors, artists and guests are made to feel safe, comfortable and at ease.

The centre is excited that it can welcome back visitors from the local community and across London from June 21st 2021.
